Happy birthday, and a really-real whistleharp :-)

Featherheads! Andrew and I were thrilled last week to discover that somewhere out there, in this very world, there is a REAL whistleharp that a real song maiden is learning to play.

A lot of folks have been intrigued and excited at the idea of building a whistleharp, and we’ve seen a number of beautiful and creative handmade (and even 3D-printed) versions. But to my knowledge, this one is the first that is actually playable.

Isn’t it beautiful?! It was an early 12th birthday gift for song maiden Jemima, created for her by her woodcrafting high-king father, Bryn. Says queen mama Ruth:

The 'Whistle' part is a Clarke original tin whistle in the key of D. My husband hand-carved the feather pieces to fit the whistle and the harp tuning pegs, bought a piece of aluminium tubing to bend for the harp edge, and [added] harp strings. It took quite a lot of tinkering to get it all to fit together and not bend out of tune when the strings get tightened!

Amazing!!

The birthday girl is thrilled, and is already teaching herself to play “Yurgen’s Tune.” :-)

A very happy birthday to you, Jemima! May the Maker bless you in all your adventures.

Minecraft fan art, and EXCLUSIVE SNEAK PEAKS

Greetings, Featherheads! Lots has been happening behind the scenes at Wingfeather HQ, but it’s been awhile since our last update. Today I am pleased to unveil some excellent new Wingfeather-themed Minecraft artwork, and to invite you behind the scenes. First, the art:

Check these out! Lia, a 5th-grade Featherhead and Minecrafter extraordinaire, created large sculptures of our three Wingfeathers—Leeli, Kal, and Janner, from right to left. Aren’t they magnificent? I love the creativity and precise engineering involved in all three of these. Incredible representations, from Leeli’s crutch and tumbling hair to Kal’s outstretched sword to Janner’s fearless stance, ready for anything. Thank you, Lia, for sharing your work with us!

And now for the behind-the-scenes action! Starting March 1 (that’s Tuesday!), our animation team will be releasing exclusive sneak peaks of the animated series in production! Be sure you are part of the Official Wingfeather Saga Fan Group on Facebook in order to access this content. Click here to join! We’ll see you on Tuesday. :-)

Wingfeather in translation

New versions of the Iggyfings’ story keep popping up on far-flung soil! Just this week, we’ve seen the first book published in Hungarian (left) and Slovak (right). Check it out!

Andrew on tour: Let not the gloom of winter and Covid bury our hopes for live music and spring! Andrew is hitting the road early next month, with two months of concerts and conferencing ahead. To see if he’ll be in your area, head to andrew-peterson.com/tour, where you can search for your city and inquire after tickets. Andrew is always thrilled to meet readers. :-)

Ben's fierce Iggyfings

Ben, 13, sent us this great sketch of the Iggyfeathers this week. Check out his excellent scratchy lines!

Ben’s excited for the upcoming animated show. I am, too, and I think this art looks like an animated show of its own. Can’t you just picture them moving, talking, fighting, smiling, and (especially in Kal’s case) eating?

Thanks for sending this in, Ben! Readers, we love to see your art.

Hannah's marvelous creatures

Hannah, 11, sent in a few of her wonderful sketches. Her sister tells us Hannah is very similar to Tink, which is so great to hear. :-)

Look at these perfect replicas of Pembrick’s creatures and Andrew’s lore! It takes a keen eye to reproduce multiple artists’ styles, and to do so is a time-honored and valuable art-apprenticing tradition. I really love her use of white space in the drawing of Peet’s castle, and the intricate detail of the whistleharp (the cord is especially pleasing), and the twinkly eyes on the selbril and thwap. So much personality. :-)

Thank you for sending these in, Hannah!
