(Update: 3-11-10)

Has it really been seven months since I’ve updated these pictures? Inexcusable. I’ve had so many horrifying drawings sent I’ve scarcely gotten any sleep. Some of the drawings aren’t so scary, but they remind me of the desperate plight of the Igiby children and send me into an emotional tailspin. Enough of my talk. Here are the latest pictures, from Sharon Brewer’s elementary school students in Jonesboro, Georgia. (As always, click the picture to zoom in on the terrors thereof.)

The map, riddled with holes, that leads to Anklejelly Manor. Or some other equally sinister place, I'm sure.

Janner and Tink crawling through the catacombs below the manor. Note the fear so plain on their faces. Note also Janner's blue hair.

Janner and Tink at the door to the weapons chamber, (very) happy to have figured out the riddle to unlock the door.

"Ahh!" This is a sound which could convey the groan of the ghostly Brimney Stupe, or, more likely, Janner's terror at being chased by the horned hounds.

Janner trying his best to boost Tink up to the cellar door. And is that a ghost in the shadows? Surely not.

Thwaps! People ask me quite often what I imagine a thwap looks like, but I’m not sure. Until I sit down and draw one (which I haven’t), the details are fuzzy (ha). The best answer is, I picture an angry squirrel. What could be more terrifying than that? Danielle, a 14 year-old from Missouri just sent in her version. I like it. I’m partial to the teeth.

Click on the image to zoom. Note the creepy teeth. Thanks, Danielle!

I just got this picture in the mail from Preston in Michigan, an 11 year-old budding artist with impeccable taste in literature. Great work, Preston.  Hope you like North! Or Be Eaten–which releases in less than three weeks.
