Abby's Leeli

Look at this sweet drawing Andrew got last week. Isn't she darling? I especially like her hair and the expression on her face. What do you think she's thinking?Abby, thanks so much for sending this in! We love her.IMG_1278Have a wonderful Monday, everyone! I spent my morning hanging out with a librarian friend and fabric-shopping with Sara Cobbler. What are you up to today?

Forum fun this week: Oskar's quote game, a welcome back to school, what we're all reading right now, and whatever topic you want to talk about—start us a thread!

Here and there

Yesterday morning Andrew and his family collapsed in a heap at the Warren after eight whole weeks in Europe and a long, long, long trip home—and lo, it was very good. Dear Petersons, we are so glad you're home.Meanwhile in the forum, we've reached a milestone: One hundred topics! Elia noticed that we were right at 99 and did a most wonderful thing. Go check that out. And while you're over there, here are a few other exciting things happening:

You people are a joy, and it's so fun to play with you and hear your thoughts. Let's get started on the next hundred forum topics. :-)

Kalmar and a quote (spoiler)

Today's fan art is from Peter, who also sent along an excellent note. What I appreciate most about this drawing is the expression on Kalmar's face—sad, noble, uncertain—and the attention to detail in the claws and sword belt. Here's his letter:

We love your books! I am eleven and I have read all of them by myself. They are awesome!! When Kalmar was fanged this is what I think he looked liked, or at least I tried to draw the picture in my mind. As you can see I'm not a very good artist, however I love to draw and find it quite an enjoyable pastime. In the words of Barnabas Remsill an old Skreean philosopher: "Art is a window into the mind of the artist, and can be looked at in many a different way." I hope you like my drawing, and I love your twist to the story of how Janner sacrificed himself for all the Cloven, and his brother. The epilogue to book four was one of the best book endings I've ever read. Thank you for writing such a great book series.

For the Hills and the Hollows,Peter E. Rand

As a native of the Hollows, I also appreciate that salutation at the end. ;-) Thanks, Peter! Keep drawing!

My Interperetation of Kalmar

This week's fun in the forum: Books that tell us who we are, Fight songs, and more Sly sneakery. Go browse around, and start us a topic! :-)

Ouster Will and Yurgen's son

Happy Tuesday, folks! Yesterday was a busy day in the library and I missed posting here, so today I shall rectify two wrongs at once by posting some long-overdue fan art. Its creator sent it to Andrew quite awhile back with this note:

My name is Joseph Brandenburg and I am 14 years old. This is a picture of the evil Ouster Will slaying the son of Yurgen. If you don't put this on your website then, in the immortal words of Loshain P'stane, "You will be most certainly and brutally slain. Or at the very least I'll chop off a finger or two. Or three."Sincerely,Joseph Brandenburg

Frankly, I do not know how we have survived. And Joseph's art certainly belongs on this site. Just look! Epic. And you'll want to zoom in, too, and check out the metallic glimmer of the dragon's scales. Thanks for the art, Joseph, and for our fingers.IMG

This week's fun in the forum: The funniest book on the face of Aerwiar, Andrew's sly sneakery, books that tell us who we are, and a huge celebration—one of our resident authors just finished the first draft of his book! I love the community we have going here, guys. :-)

Voom! A dinosaur review

Last week, Wingfeather received its first-ever review from a dinosaur.

There are few things I enjoy more than a rousing fantasy tale. Dragons, quests, and armies? Just hand me a tankard of your best ale for quaffing while I listen, fair friend. Be warned: I have been known to conduct improper and disorderly jesting when so roused by the high winds of fantasy. Huzzah! Yet fantasy is more than just interesting locales and pointy weapons. The best aspects of fantasy lie in its ability to call us deeply to the truest reality.

Tintejaeger the dinosaur goes on to talk about throne wardenship and some deep themes behind the cloven, which I really appreciated reading. If you don't mind spoilers, click here to read the rest. Thanks, Tintejaeger.

There's been some good discussion in the forum this week, especially about things in the fourth book. We'd love to hear your thoughts, about those topics or any others! And if you're a writer, be sure to stop by the Authors, assemble! thread and join in the conversation. Also, check this out: A fan-created trailer for the animated series. :-) So cool. Are you an animator? Make us a trailer! :-D
