Notes Regarding my Encounter with the Elusive Snorthog

The woods were creaking as my beswaddled toes tread quietly along the trail of the most confounding of all Aerwiarian creatures, more even than the Snickbuzzard’s bellybuttoned girth. At last my searching eyes fixed upon a flaming fwooshy tail. The creature was hideously beautiful…

This week’s Creaturepedia writing contest winner is Calen Lotspeich, who discovered a letter describing a new creature from none other than Ollister Pembrick himself. As Ollister has said in his other writings, “Since the Second Epoch, the creatures of Aerwiar have grown more and more corrupt, more and more dangerous, and (I would argue) more and more beautiful.” This creature is no exception.

Continue reading Calen’s winning entry for the 6th-8th grade category at the Rabbit Room. Wonderful work, Calen, and congratulations!

The runner-up was Priya Gingrich’s Bean Brew With a Monster on the Side. Thank you, Priya, for your excellent work as well!

We’ll post the final story next week: Rose Swillum’s Out of the Deeps of the Dragon King, winner of the 9th-12th grade category.

Pembrick’s Creaturepedia (with blank pages to document your own travels!) is available in our site store. May your adventures be grand, and your eyes filled with wonder!

A Letter from Mr. Quiggle to Mr. Pembrick Regarding the Discovery of a Cronker

Dear Ollister Bahbert Pembrick,

I hope you remember me, Barnabas Quiggle, from when you were in Skree. I helped you document several species of dangerous animals (which contributed to the loss of several of your toes, some of my hair, and my left earlobe) that lived in mostly dangerous environments.

Thus begins this remarkable tale of an afternoon walk, a significant encounter, and an (untold) gobbling—a tale brought to our attention by the astute Annie Butler, whose story won the 3rd-5th grade category of our recent Creaturepedia writing contest. Thank you, Annie, and congratulations! Click here to continue reading at the Rabbit Room.

The runner-up was Ben Hardy’s The Spiky Bimble. Well done, Ben!

Next week we will share with you Calen Lotspeich’s Notes Regarding my Encounter with the Elusive Snorthog: the winner of the 6th-8th grade category.

Pembrick’s Creaturepedia (with blank pages to document your own travels!) is available in our site store. May your adventures be grand, and your toes and earlobes intact!

Creaturepedia out now!

Your long-awaited Creaturepedia preorders have been pouring in, and we’ve been so thrilled to see your responses!

Keep tagging us (@wingfeathersaga)! Keep exploring! And, in the words of the great poet and naturalist Frollendra Marnen, “May this tome see you safely home.”

Creaturepedia contest winners!

Huge congratulations to our writing contest winners!

Thank you all so much for your wonderful engagement with this contest! There were over 500 entries! It was so hard to pick between them all, but Andrew somehow landed on the final winners and sent us a carrier midgeon all the way from the UK early this morning. :-)

Winning stories will be posted at the Rabbit Room blog in the upcoming weeks, and we will link to each one as it is released. For today, here are the names (and titles!) of the winning entries. WONDERFUL job, all of you! Ollister Pembrick would be so proud and pleased to see his work carried forward through your creativity.

One week until Creaturepedia frenzy!

Pembrick’s Creaturepedia: Skreean Edition releases one week from today! Prepareth thou thine jubilations!!

Meanwhile, we have an excellent bit of fan art to share with you today, and a bit of adventure.

First, the art:

Voyage.jpg

Isn’t that glorious? This beautiful piece of art was created by Bethany (13). I love the texture of the ship’s planks, the detail in the rigging, and the way the dragon curls off the page and back into the scene. Bethany, thank you for drawing and sharing this with us! Dear readers, we love your fan art. Keep sending it. :-)

And now for the bit of adventure:

Andrew wrote a guest post at the Dear Reader blog this morning, which includes some of his creaturely encounters (attacks!) whilst on walking tour in the UK. Click here to find out whether he has been gobbled! And thank you, Suzanne, for welcoming Andrew to your blog. :-)

Hearken! Two preorder bonuses

Dear readers, this is an exciting time to be alive. In epochs past, when one had discovered a fair new land of wonder or was preparing to explore (hopefully fair) new lands full of creatures to document, there would often be a long delay between hope and fact. Between volume one and boxed sets, for example, or between packing one’s gear and receiving one’s guide to the wilds. Not so for us! For us, there are TWO excellent delights on the horizon. One of them releases in just two weeks! The other will come some weeks later, but still in plenty of time to preorder for holiday gifts. And both come with extras, if you know where to look.
